Colorado woman gets revenge on porch pirates by stuffing decoy boxes with garbage
Hey San Franciscans, you might want to take notes on this. A fed-up Colorado Springs woman figured out the perfect way to exact revenge on porch pirates: tricking them into taking out her garbage.
Christine Hyatt's family has had packages — including one containing her daughter's diabetes medication — stolen off their porch more than 20 times, according to KKTV. One day a few weeks ago, the family missed trash day, and Hyatt had a stroke of genius.
"We forgot to set our trash out for Thanksgiving, so we were overflowing with trash," Hyatt told KKTV. "I've had packages stolen and I went, 'You know what? I have extra boxes — let's see if someone will take our trash!'"
She filled decoy Amazon packages with garbage including cigarette butts, fast food trash and used kitty litter. Swiftly, the traps were swiped. In fact, four rounds of stinky decoys later, the thieves continue to be fooled by them.
Meanwhile, Colorado Springs package theft has nothing on the San Francisco Bay Area. We lead the country with about a third more larcenies/thefts than the national average, according to a company that reviews home safety products. Just imagine the tricking-thieves-into-taking-out-your-garbage possibilities.
