Woman who punched cop in shocking Bronx video should be freed because she is an essential worker delivering medicine, claims lawyer
The lawyer of a woman arrested for punching a cop in the Bronx said today her client should be freed because her work delivering medicines makes her an essential worker.
A video captured on Tuesday in the Bronx shows an NYPD cop being viciously punched around the head by a man wearing a face mask as he aids in the arrest of a robbery suspect.
Another video, which surfaced today, shows Brandee Isom, 25, who was off camera in the original clip, in a scuffle with a different officer.
Isom tries to get past the officer to reach the suspect, Yoemdy Castro, 27, who is in cuffs on the floor. When the cop stops her getting through, Isom swings her arm round towards the cop's heads. The officer then launches a flurry of punches at the 25-year-old's face.
According to Isom's lawyer, Iliana Santiago, Isom is an 'essential worker' and should be set free.

She added that she has never been in trouble before Tuesday.
Santiago claims the officer hit Isom first, which can be seen in the clip, but police said she was swinging her fists before the footage started recording.
Bronx Prosecutor Alessandra Ambrosi said that she landed a punch to the cop’s face after a period of the pair pushing each other.

'Ms. Isom puts her hands on the officer… she attempts to swing at him and misses,' said Ambrosi. 'She attempts to swing at him again and makes a connection with his right jaw.'
The judge turned down Isom's essential worker argument and she is being held on $5,000 bail.
Nelson Jimenez, 31, who could clearly be seen sucker-punching another officer in the original video, was arrested later in the day after fleeing the scene. Police are still preparing charges against him.
