Man, 42, blasts ‘disintegrating’ £190k Taylor Wimpey newbuild that left him with ‘grey’ skin from ‘rotting walls’

A MAN has blasted his "disintegrating" Taylor Wimpey flat which left him with "grey skin" from "rotting walls".

Gavin Inskip, 42, moved into his £190,000 new-build flat in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, in 2007.

But he has now vowed he "wouldn't buy a new build" again after discovering several faults in the property - including toilet pipes fitted uphill.

Radio presenter Gavin - who has a history of sinus issues - told The Sun: "Every morning I would wake up with a heavy head. I had this grey, scaley mackerel skin under my eye."

After smelling damp in his en-suite, he lifted up a tile and the "the floor beneath just crumbled away".

He added: "The next day my sinuses flared up with huge headaches, eyes stinging, congested, I felt awful."

He sent his GP a picture of his face, and his reaction was put down to the "rotting" bathroom.

He said: "I was sleeping next to a decaying en-suite. I know there are leaks, but that bathroom wasn't fit for purpose."He said a "very small leak in the shower trap" caused the room to decay "from the outside in".

Gavin claimed the bathroom had "no water proofing" and the tiles were fitted straight onto plasterboard.

He added: "The builder couldn't believe what he was seeing. As he pulled back the tiles the whole wall disintegrated. It was not built for purpose.

"Ten years it had been decaying, for ten years. The whole thing was a shell of decay."

"SHELL OF DECAY"

Gavin also told how his second toilet "wasn't right" since moving in.

He said: "I would go away for a few days and come back and there would be brown water in there."

When a plumber came in to investigate, he couldn't believe his eyes.

Gavin added: "The plumber called me at work and said: 'I have stopped working, you have to come home to see this'.

"We found that the pipes were fitted up hill. It is the guest bathroom so it doesn't get used too often.

"So I would go away and whatever was in there was running back down again."

He said Taylor Wimpey fixed the issues and offered him compensation.

Gavin also said his waste pipe was not attached to the mains pipe in the kitchen.

This meant that when a washing machine was installed water was running down the sink pipe before "spraying everything".

He claims the issue wasn't fixed until 2018.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: “Taylor Wimpey is committed to delivering homes of the highest standards and providing excellent customer service.

"We investigate every complaint brought to our attention to achieve a fair outcome as soon as possible.

"We remind all our customers, if they have any concerns about their home, to follow the official Taylor Wimpey complaints procedure and contact us directly so we can address any issues quickly and effectively.”
