MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle tells Dr. Anthony Fauci: 'You make us smarter and safer and better every day'

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle concluded an interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci by telling the public health figure, "You make us smarter and safer and better everyday."

Fauci, who is the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than three decades — he has been a prominent and polarizing figure throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

"Since I have been spending a considerable amount of time trying to propagate public health principles of why it's important for the protection of the individual, of their family, and of society, to get vaccinated, for that reason I've been villainized," Fauci said. When Ruhle asked whether this ever made Fauci want to step down, he said that "we are in a crisis right now," and declared that, "there's no chance I'm gonna walk away from this. This is something that's too important."

Ruhle responded by expressing her appreciation of Fauci.

"Well I am sincerely appreciative that you are not walking away from this post. You make us smarter and safer and better everyday. Thank you so much Dr. Fauci," Ruhle said.

While some Americans hold Fauci in high esteem, others harbor a strongly negative view of the man, a sentiment that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis's campaign is capitalizing on by selling "Freedom Over Fauci Flip Flops," that bear the message, "Fauci Can Pound Sand."
